Goldfinch

Light Installation by Spencer Finch
Words and image thanks to Chicago Art Machine.
'When I arrived at the offices of Kirkland & Ellis, it wasn’t the art that first caught my eye, it was the bulked up security. Their website conveys the impressive scope of this international firm, “Kirkland’s oldest and largest office is in Chicago… Today, Kirkland’s Chicago office has expanded to approximately 650 lawyers who provide a full spectrum of litigation, corporate, real estate, intellectual property, restructuring, tax, benefits and estates services.” After my credentials were thoroughly checked, I made my way though the sleek security posts and an elevator took me to the seventh floor reception lobby. When the doors opened, I was greeted by a dazzling array of lights and as I would soon find out, was a light installation by the artist Spencer Fitch. In the center of the room was the sleek ovoid reception desk and the room was naturally lit from the southern wall of windows. My reasons for this visit to law firm of Kirkland & Ellis was twofold: first on my list was to check out the installation of the latest work by Juan Chavez. The main reason, however, for this visit was to meet the curator of this intriguing collection, Chicago gallerist, Linda Warren and find out more about the art and artists collected in the firm’s two main floors at 300 North LaSalle.'

Richard Hawley was asked if he wasn't living in Sheffield then where else would he live and he answered 'Rotherham'. Well this reception desk is in Sheffield . Dive architects do the stuff again and this time for a new 'digital business campus', a playful interior but full of detail.Top image thanks to top RCKT.

Nice to see you to see you Nice

It's good to have another posting from french France, maybe George Osborne will appreciate it. This interior creation is from the drawing board of Florentine based Architects Simone Micheli.
We particularly like the Daliesque tree. The reception desk is sitting relaxed within the wellness centre of the Hotel Exedra and all modesty fully covered in The Contemporist.

Unfortunately we do not have a close up of this angular reception desk by KPF Architects but the colour and space make a great composition to make it worth featuring. The project was for Development Securities in London's Paddington area which is becoming quite vibrant architecturally. Photography by slick clickers Hufton and Crow.

The interior of the The Keating Boutique hotel in the historic centre of San Diego, California is our second feature from the multi disciplinary studio of Pininfarina - Extra. The reception desks detailing , fabrication and finishes clearly echo 'couture-motive' stylizing ( see also 29thOct 09).

Luna landing

We feel this engineered bit of kit is more suited to front of house rather than to just display executive ego. Hence our reason to feature it as an example of reception desk borne out of an engineer/designer collaboration resulting in original styling. It may look like a indulgent one-off but this beautifully formed desk is a range by Pininfarina Extra.

Front page news , hot off the press! A Whiteleaf Design Ltd manufactured reception desk, so new that all we have are these wonderful 3d renders from Gilbert Ruiz @ City Space Consult . Quite a simple design carried off with great effect by these two voluptuous curved ends that form the overall lozenge shape in gloss white laminate finish with acrylic faced light box to the centre. The project has just been carried out in the centre of London by design and build specialists City Space.

This exotic selection, from the two 3d renders at the top to the photos by Paris based Maria Ziegelbock , are of the Austrian Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo 2010 by Viennese architects SPAN & Zeytinoglu.
For me the abstract forms have echoes of Futurism but hey that's just me. The reception desk is CNC milled polyurethane coated with synthetic resin, utilizing aviation industry technology.View Dezeen and interiordesign for more.

Concrete chic

The write up for the the new literature Building at Warren College Campus, San Diego sums up the interior thus..
'The design aesthetic, characterized by linear patterns and neutral tones, pays homage to the brutalist modern and postmodern architecture on campus' which we imagine was the brief for this reception desk.
The image and words are thanks to 'Orchids and Onions' blog connected to The San Diego Architectural Foundation "inspiring excellence in our built environment" ..so pretty much like Reception Desk World.

Born in Illinois

And now some refreshing traditional cabinet making ,a style sadly little seen out side the USA, from the blog of architects Styczynski Walker & Associates. We are particularly fond of the mill work of the fluted shaft of the columns.
'The fine detailing from the reception area extends into the remaining hallways, offices and six examination rooms. SWA worked with both Geriatric Care Associates and Hubbard Business interiors with the selection of the interior mill work was well as designing the custom, raised panel reception desk'.

Durban Disturbance

This is our first Youtube posting with a highly original reception desk from Dinkum Design .So here in their words :
'Richard Hart the managing director of "Disturbance" an upbeat advertising company here in Durban, KZN approached me to come up with a concept for a new reception desk for their offices. The building is an old Victorian colonial double storey house that has been left untouched on the outside but transformed inside into a modern open plan space with bridges linking mezzanine working areas furnished in a slick minimalist style.
My first though was to do an old fashioned reception desk to blend with the oustide of the building, to look as if it was the only piece of furniture that they kept from the old house ... ' View their blogs for more words and ideas.

Our Czech mates

If sculpture can be regarded as 'sensual' then the description of this Corian reception desk should be labeled thus. OK there is a controlled symmetry to its form but it is far removed from any bland modular uniformity and at the same time functional and a productive workspace. A unique subtle duality of art and commerce - reception desk synergism . An apt solution for its home in a military hospital in Prague.
Thanks to Amos Design for the images and this won't be the last from them.
