ресепшн отеля
A rich timber chocolate bar of a reception desk for the Hotel Continental in central Odessa and designed to reflect the XIX century building by the Architect F. Gonsiorovskogo. We have also included the title in the Russian alphabet because it reminds us of the work of the typographer Neville Brody's 80's type faces and an excuse for a bit of contemporary graphic design nostalgia.

Equity in Design
We are quite partial to interior structures morphing into reception desks or visa versa. Here slabs of veneered panels shift like continental plates from canopy defining seating area down the seismograph to a more human scale of the receptionists domain. It appears to be an effortless realisation of the timber structure but it must have been no mean feat, so compliments for design and detail of this scheme to DFD Interior Architecture and Design all for a Real Estate Company in Arizona. Gumball chic
Clearly a desk to fit a budget but what originality manufactured by GRC Creations from Georgia, USA. We feel its aesthetic has a Damien Hirst quality. A sweet toothed reception desk,
ingredients - gum base, sweetened condensed milk, brown sugar, corn syrup, butter, acrylic panels, laminate worktop and timber structure.

All hands on deck
From the Charente-Maritime and Vendee regions of the west coast of France is produced this nautical range of reception desks by Deckline. A great example of diversification by applying traditional boat building skills to another discipline and creating a wide range of furniture types such as chairs , stools, tables and bars. It would be nice to get down to the boatyard and view one of these reception desks. Thanks to François Girard for the images.

Boats,quays,moorings and the spark

Housed within the beauty of the inner Hebrides of Scotland in the An Tuireann arts centre, Skye, is this crafted reception desk .A confident and artful use of solid ash by leading designer maker Matthew Burt. All this achieved by 'stacking variable lengths of ash, anchored and pivoting around a turned pillar'. We couldn't resist the bottom image of a bar counter with its tactile frontage of blocked end grain from another of Matthews projects.

The joy of eating
Minimally speaking here's a beautiful white reception desk for Sara Lee by Marco Hemmerling and for maximum effect see Dezeen. And just to fill up some space I'd like to mention Marco Perroni.

Sillitoe Tartan
A strong interior scheme from Ministry of Design for The Club Hotel in Singapore from the Alice in Wonderland chequered floor to the delicate sculptural ceiling treatment. Amongst this sits an understated reception desk but you wouldn't any more, simple yet sophisticated. Check in at the Contemporist for the full glory. And scheme now can be seen in FX Mag Jan 2011.

This was mine

Another irresistible image that may not be strictly a reception desk but could quite easily be one. Redundant ( and diffused!) marine mines from Naissaar Island situated in the Gulf of Finland recycled into artistic corroded creations. Also, it is good to add Estonia to the receptiondeskworld globe led here by the amazing sculptor Mati Karmin . Also seen @ Trendhunter.

Art for the MASSes
Not only are we pleased to have discovered this unique reception desk, produced from the craft of the underworld , but also for you artistic aficinadoes, the sublime work of Artist Rob Duarte and in his words :
'As part of a group of architecture, industrial design and sculpture students working as a design-build firm, I created a model and presentation proposing my design for a Massachusetts College of Art reception desk. My proposal was chosen by a committee of judges and the design was executed by myself and the rest of our team. The construction included pouring over 200 pounds of bronze for the countertop, casting molten glass into graphite forms, and hot riveting dozens of hand-forged rivets on-site.'

Fluid Ariane
An interior space that parallels its occupants perfectly and fulfills its mission combining information , study and inspiration. 21st Century Interior architecture by Daniela Bianka from the launch pad of Dezeen. A part from the sweeping gravity defying Corian reception desk we are particularly fond of the artworks on glass reflecting research and French space explorational technology.
